Research shows that a dock freeboard over 12" makes it extremely difficult for individuals to lift themselves out of the water without the aid of a safety ladder or assistance from people on the dock. Add cold temperatures and heavy wet clothing, and it becomes even more difficult and almost impossible.
This is the first dock ladder and marina ladder designed specifically as a stationary safety ladder to provide a safe, secure exit from the water for "accidental" swimmers when deployed in around slips, gas docks and other dock areas. Made with all stainless steel components for use in salt and fresh water, the safety ladder has been tested to support 1000 lbs.
Because of its unique design this safety ladder stores collapsed in a compact 22" profile until deployed in an emergency situation. When deployed by pulling the yellow step into the water, the steps extend from 30" to 48" (based on dock freeboard), and extend out and away from the dock to make the first step easier to reach. There are 5 steps, each with a standard 12" rise. After use, the safety ladder is simply collapsed to its storage position up and out of the water. All ladders are labeled as safety ladders only to discourage other uses.
This safety ladder is constructed of stainless steel components with superior RIE marine coated bolts. The top anchoring plate installs first with four self-tapping torque head bolts. The safety ladder steps install next through the top plate and the support braces and our secured with cotter pins for ease of installation while providing an anti-tampering fit. The safety ladder anchoring plate powder-coated with a high visibility yellow Innotek polyarmor coating; and is clearly marked "Safety Ladder - Emergency Water Exit Only - No Swimming"
For optimal stability when used, the ladder should be mounted on the dock in a position where the rests on the back of the first step will come in contact with a portion of the dock frame or the fascia board. The rests act as stabilizers when weight is put on the ladder. Some locations on a dock system, such as the 45 degree deck extensions where a finger meets the main dock, may not be suitable locations for ladder installations. These extensions generally have inadequate frame height for the ladder rests to hit when the ladder is in use. Where needed a back plate could be added to the dock frame structure to provide a surface that the rests can hit.
